This will mark the first proper, international Reggae concert in Ghana! Grant it, Reggae artists have been here before, but never so many at one time, nor ever in celebration of the Legend himself, Robert Nesta Marley. February 3-6, 2006, the Bob Marley Foundation and the Rita Marley Foundation, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Capitalization of the Modern City, will be celebrating Bob Marley's 61st birthday in Ghana. After this year's successful celebration in Ethiopia, it inspired the Rita Marley Foundation to pursue Bob's dream even further by taking the celebration a round Africa, promoting the theme of African Unity. This year's event will feature
Culture, Steel Pulse, & the I-Three. A symposium is scheduled to address matters concerning the youth of today. Artists will have a hand in corresponding with the youth directly, participating in discussions/ciphers, with hopes of inspiring a self-help mentality in the youth of today, so that Africa won't be plagued with leaders seeking hand-outs in the future. Proceeds from both concerts are earmarked for the continuation of works presently supported by the Rita Marley Foundation, including a school, a community center and a new clinic.
